6th Annual Gardening Seminar

Purpose: The goal of this seminar is to improve the gardening practices of Orange County residents who grow edible and ornamental plants. The program is designed to provide practical information for home gardeners; it is not intended to provide training for people employed in the horticulture industry. Any proceeds from the seminar are used to defray related expenses and to support Master Gardener educational activities in home horticulture.

                           Rose Parade Volunteers Needed

The city is looking for volunteers to help with the Mission Viejo float that is being entered in the Rose Parade.  It has been over 20 years since a float in the Rose Parade has represented our community.  Isn't it exciting!  Below are some of the details that we will be discussing at our up coming meeting but feel free to contact the city if you already know you'd like to help.  Our contact is Kathi Dickey - (949) 470-8488.

  • The Rose Parade float for the City of Mission Viejo has been designed by renown float designer Raul Rodriguez.  The builder is Fiesta Floats in Irwindale.  The city is currently looking for sponsors to provide busing, meals and souvenirs for volunteers.
  • Volunteers needed - Murray Center
    • Oct 24, 25       2:00pm-8pm
    • Nov 28, 29      10am-6pm
    • 2 hour sessions
    • dry days – cutting Statice flowers
    • Children 6-12 years of age accompanied by adults is encouraged or group leaders
  • Many children's groups will be involved. Volunteers are needed to supervisor their activities and/or lead groups along the OSO Creek Trail.
    • Dates not yet determined. – the dates would be the dates listed above for dry decorating as well as any other dates that we need to add
  • Volunteers needed - Irwindale
    • Nov. 8, Dec. 6 - Dry day – 8 hour shifts
    • Dec. 26 - 30 - Flowering week
    • Dec. 29, 30 - Flowers placed - Volunteers must have volunteered for at least two days before being able to working on these days.
    • Shifts are 8 AM - 5 PM and 3 PM - 11 PM
    • Aside from working with flowers, others volunteer opportunities are available.
      • gluing, supervising (handled by Fiesta Floats and City employees), cleaning, scaffolding work, sweeping, etc.
    • Luxury buses have been provided to transport volunteers - 56 per bus.
    • Snacks and lunch will be provided as well as a different souvenir each day.
    • Irvindale   volunteers must be at least 12 years old (required for insurance purposes) and high schoolers and older may attend on their own with parental permission
